Rem 40XBR in edge stock

Got my 40XBR 6ppc in a "new" edge carbon fiber stock. It is still 2 and 1/2 oz. Heavy for LV. Have not shot it in this stock, have been shooting it in original stock with a PTG bolt and recoil lug. If I take another inch off the chamber end it should make 10 & 1/2". Going to shoot it on Wed.

Eliminate the recoil lug will save you plenty of weight -set bbl bac or glue it in without the recoil lug done properly the rear tang will serve as a recoil lug

I have all the original parts, 6 X 47 rem barrel, original bolt and Rem 24XBR scope. So I don't want to glue action in. If I was smart I would sell it an buy a new bench rest action.

It shouldn't be difficult to drill a couple of ounces from under the buttplate or out of the barrel channel based on keeping your balance where you want it.

How much do your scope. Caps weigh?
Weigh the butt plate?

The barrel is 22.8" and Hal had a good point I think I weighed it with the scope caps and lens covers? I will weigh it again. There is no but plate on an edge stock, just the cover for weights.

A set of Harrell's Ultra Lite rings should solve your problem. That's what I used on my factory 6BR. You can see a picture on my web page. Click until you find a full size picture of the wood stock rifle. I had to use those rings after I added the recoil pad for stock length. LDS

I am sure they are but I see them as overkill for a rim fire bench rifle.

Last time I checked 6PPC was not a rimfire, but you are right a set of Davidson bases and rings should reduce weight just about right

Right, this is a center fire 40 XBR , the Harrell rings and bases are aluminum, I agree that is the best solution. The weaver tactical ring are heavy. The weaver bases are light but the harrells can't be heavier. The savings would be in the rings. Also not too many benchrest rifles with barrels over 22". My barrel is 22 3/4" the original remington barrel is a 20".

What is so magical about shooting it as an LV? Unless you feel it is capable of breaking records. I have a .222 Rem 700 in an Edge stock and it tracks great for IBS score matches as a HV.

I guess I am not sure it really needs to be LV, however it did start out as LV in the 70s. When I put a ppc barrel on it I left it long, at 24" it would not make LV. It is more can I shoot it as a LV rifle an shoot good scores and groups with it.
