Jim,

I own three Remington 40x rimfires and a Stiller Loanstar that is based on the 40x rimfire action. Unless yours is different than mine you will damage the chamber if you dry fire the 40x. This is something that I have just lived with and not addressed as a problem.

Good luck,

Paul

Since the potential for damage exists with some actions and I long ago got tired of keeping track of which ones they were, I keep a handful of once fired .22 rimfire brass around to use as snap caps. Cheap insurance. :)

It will peen a burr on the edge of the chamber at 12:00 o'clock. Numerous gents received CMP guns and had to remove a burr before they could use it or to chamber more easily. And/or it can break or bend the firing pin or flatten the end.

Not going to do it with any of mine!!!

I do as stated above. I use an empty case for testing trigger pull etc. If I want practice I shoot.

Well it all depends on if your firing pin has been ground properly to fit your rifle. If it has then no it won't hurt a thing. The one sure fire way to find out is to dry fire it and look at the 12:00 on the face of the chamber. I don't suggest you do this. If you want to squeeze the trigger put a live round in it and shoot it. In a safe direction of course.

Custom shop .22's from Remington should come with a stick on them that says DO NOT DRY FIRE.

Sold a couple that had this.

Don't dry fire it.
