Reloder 15, Varget, and Temperature

I am just getting to the point of load developement with my new 6BR,28' Krieger 1x8 twist) and would like to use the 105 Amax, CCI 450 primers and like the looks of either Varget or RL15 powders.

I would like to know from those who have used both of these powders in the 6BR what your experiences have been with velocity/pressure spreads in different temperatures, using the heavy bullets. I have heard that Varget is less temperature sensitive than RL15, my question is, how much so? Thanks, Bill

You are right on the temp, but not too much. RL 15 will give you more speed. I get 2900 f/s in mine, with Berger 105.

I used to use RL 15 for my 6BR,,with 105 Bergers) but I was still getting heavy bolt lift, even when the loaded rounds were iced down in a cooler.,on 75+ degree days) Yes, I was getting almost 100 fps faster with the RL 15, but my 28' Krieger likes them at 2830 fps pushed by Varget. I am sticking with Varget for good.

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like the RL15 will be the choice, and would appear to have a clear edge in velocity. If the temperature induced velocity swings aren't that much greater than Varget, I should have a winner.

Now, if if I can just find some CCI 450 primers!
