Reloading the 2fitty

I currently shoot Hornady V-max 50gr. factory bullets. I want to step it up a bit and reload. Any recommendations for powder, primers, brass and bullets? I'm thinking of running CCI benchrest primers, IMR 3031 powder 35 grains or so, and probably Remington brass with Sierra Blitzking 50gr. pills. I'm a recreational shooter, but want the most accuracy/ knockdown power possible!,out of my 22-250) I have a Savage model 12BVSS with a 26" BBL and a 1 in 12 twist. Also what should I get as far as equipment?

Moose, one of the 250's favorite loads is with the 60g bullet with 39.0g of IMR 4350; win primer in the range of 3500 fps. The 60g V max is a great bullet for the 1-12 twist.

With the 55's, I load from 39.0g to 41.5g with the 55g Nosler C/T
bullets; win 760, very fast and accurate.

I tried varget, no luck with it.

With 4895 with the 55's, 34.0-35.0g seems to be extremely accurate in some guns with the 55's.

34.5-35.5 with IMR 4064 is extremely accurate in some barrels with the 55's.

H380 is the go to powder in the 22/250, but in the guns that I have had, velocity was much slower than published data. I had one rifle that loved 39.2g of H380 with a 55, amazing groups at 400 yards.

Good luck!

I have had great luck with the Nosler 55's with the loads above. Strange thing is you can never precict what a barrel will like.

In order to keep copper fouling to a minimum while shooting for groups, shoot 3 shot groups and de-copper your barrel often.

I load the 50gr Horn Vmax over 36 Gr IMR 4895 for 3800fps. In my Winchester HV it shoots in the .1's at 100 yds abd the Vmax is deadly never exiting a groundhog. Makes little Prairie Dog pieces out of P-dogs! Here is a pic of 2 Crows I soht the one on the left at a measured 298 yds. When I went over to check them out I saw I had killed them both. They were sitting about 2 ft apart, only thing I can figure is the bullet broke up and shrapnel got the 2nd one!

Moose -

Howdy !

With that twist, I'd recommend going w/ Sierra 65SPBT; over
powders the speed of WW760, H414, VV160...maybe even VV165.

Use Fed LR Magnum Match primers w/ all.

If you don't like that bullet wt, your 1-12 could always handle
the custom 60s , some are over .75" lg ).

Hello,

I shoot a Rem. VS SF in 22-250, it seems to like the 50grn V-Max with 36.5grn of Varget behind it. Push out there at just a tick over 3600fps.
