Reloading short hormady ftx cases for 44 mag

I have a ton of brass gifted to me by my brother in law. The only problem is he exclusively shoots ftx bullets and the cases are about 10 to 15 thou short. Was thinking of trimming them all to a uniform length and reloading them using AA 7 and 240 gr polymer coated swc, the brand escapes me at the moment.

I found this to be a more accurate powder with these bullets than 4227 or h110, and I happen to have plenty of it on hand.

Of course I will start at a minimum load, but I was wondering if I should start at the min load for .44 mag or bump it down a couple % to account for the reduced case volume. Any advice?

P.s. I can spell Hornady. The title is a typo.

Take a look at 44 special loads data and the case length. I would start at the low end of the magnum loads.

Let me know the Case Length you want to trim to and the COAL you want to load and the bullet length. I'll run the numbers in QuickLoad and PM you with the results.

By accident I've trimmed some brass 15 thou shorter, and it made no difference as long as the COAL was not any shorter than in the manuals.

My dead brain! Of course! Zero...you’re brilliant!

i use to shoot a steel match with a srh in 44 mag. to speed reloads i cut the brass short so it fell out sooner/quicker. mag brass in a mag cylinder. not a real issue work up a load as normal. i was shooting 290/300 gr hard lead alloy

That's mighty kind of you. I will be trimming tomorrow night and let you know the length.
