Reloading Shopping List

I have never reloaded, but have learned as much as possible, through books, questions, reloading manuals, videos, a class at a local gun shop and spending some time with another reloader. All total, I have made two rounds.

Now I am ready to buy the tools and supplies, which is where I need help. I would like to buy the right things the first time, even if it costs more and may take more time to learn and use. I am looking to make the highest quality ammunition possible for use in an AR15 .223, AR10 308, 6mmBR or Dasher in some sort of accuracy discipline,BR, F, F/TR, etc.).

Am I missing anything? Overkill? Suggestions?
Stuff I don't need? Thank you. Phil

It sure looks like you have got it figured out. I would not try to discourage you in any way, but that is a lot of money to get started. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely up to you what you want to spend. I would probably start off a little simpler, but I like your choices. A couple of suggestions I would make would be 1 or 2 more manuals just for more info to compare like Lyman. Also possibly a dial caliper and a balance beam scale. I have a Pact dispenser and scale and a digital caliper, but I have the dial caliper and beam scale just in case I happen to have a problem with the electronic equipment I am still able to reload. Just a few suggestions. Congratulations on your new endeavor. I have been reloading for about 13 years and love it. Good Luck!

It is a fair amount of money,$1500+ w/no Giraud). But I do not like buying something, then buying a superior replacement later on, as I spend even more money overall. I can still shoot without some of these things and expect I will get things like a neck turner, bushing dies, etc., later on, as I see a need and desire to have them. Still, if I can cut costs, I'd love to hear how!

Your suggestions on manuals are noted and will do. I have a dial caliper already. I have heard the same thing on balance beam scales, good just to have the simple mechanical devices in case the sophisticated stuff goes awry.

Thank you for your input.

what can be substituted; 1) RCBS case prep center, 2) coax has a better less troublesome primer seater included, 3) no manuals needed as more current reload data on web, 4) belkin or similar UPS foe chargemaster, cheap is good here, 5) foster dies over 22 & 20 under get dies with a window, 6) gonna need the money saved for Giraud and/or progressive press, 7) global industries,I remember) for their workbench, out of country so can't be more specific but google them), 8) hydraulic stool on casters and vinyl mat if on carpet, this will give you same outlay but more and better equipment.

Some consider the Crocogator to be overly aggressive, removing brass. Either a less aggressive tool or a uniforming tool could be considered. Some prefer the Satern aluminum funnels, available from Sinclair, to a plastic one.

Get a LEE hand primer instead of the RCBS strip setup. The Lee costs less and does as good or better than the RCBS strips.

Thank you. A few questions.

1) The RCBS case prep center looks great and is way cheaper than a Gracey or Giraud. What am I giving up? Looks like the ability to not have to worry about how much I feed the case into the cutter compared to the RCBS?

2) Are you saying just use the primer seating function on the Co-Ax and forget about any hand priming?

3) I am concerned about using load data on the web, unless it is coming from a manufacturer, but that seems to come only in th form of a manual. What web sources are you referring to?

4) No problem getting UPS.

5) '...foster dies over 22 & 20 under get dies with a window...'. I don't know what this means.

6) '...gonna need the money saved for Giraud and/or progressive press..'. Why would I need the money saved for a Giraud if I already have the RCBS?

7) Global Industrial has a LOT of workbenches, but I can build my own,I have the tools), for much cheaper and so it fits exactly how I want it with specific functions.

8) Yes, need the hydraulic stool. Lots of those too at Global Industrial.
