reloading 32 H & R Mag.

carl1575

I am still in the car business after 53 years
I am just starting to load the 32 H & R Mag. in Ken Waters book Pet Loads he lists a 85 gr. Hornady JHP out of a 6 1/2 inch Ruger SS as 1241 FPS- as the best accuracy from a jacketed bullet-5.5 gr. 800x. On the Load data site there new burn rate chart only lists 700x, no 800x. Any one know if 800x was replaced by 700x. I don't know a lot about what I think I know about. Carl in Yakima

I use ww231 powder with the 85 grain hp with good results.Lyman lists 231,hp38 and unique as the best chice's for this cartridge. They also don't list the velocity numbers any where near what waters is claiming.

700x was out before 800x. I've used both in shotgun target and hunting loads in days gone by. As far as I know, the last time I saw powder on the shelves in stores, they both were still available but only in 8 oz cans or by 5# kegs.
It's burn rate is around Blue Dot, Herco, 4756, AA#7 according to Western Powder's burn rate chart.
800X is a versatile powder for both shotgun and pistol. I have cast loads w/800X in 38 spec, 45 LC, 32 Mag, and 30/30WCF at present. I guess I can say I like it.
I used data from Lyman's #47th Ed. pistol loads. Their max load is 5.0 gr. of 800x with 85 gr in a universal receiver w/5" bbl and list 1005fps at MAX.
I shoot that 5.0 gr. in a 3" Taraus snubbie as well as a Ruger Buckeye w/5.5" bbl. This load shoots well and shows no sign of pressure w/Federal or Starline cases, easy to eject and nice looking primers. Sorry to say I haven't chronoed them as yet.
I have no doubt that a Ruger could handle 5.5gr. [above max from manual], but 5 gr. shot good enough and is where I stopped, especially in the lightwt. Tarus.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info but this is the dumbest question I think I have ever ask about reloading. 30 minutes after I posted it. I looked up the new burn rate chart on load data and there was no 800x listed, instead of looking in one of my new reloading manuals and I have most of them I just ask a question that I answered myself 30 minutes latter by opening up the 2013 Hodgdons annual manual. Anyway I thank everyone for keeping this old man straight Carl in Yakima
