reloading 22 BR

I just traded for a 22 BR rifle and am investigating the loading die options. I got a Wilson seater, Redding neck and form dies with the rifle but it appears that I will need a FL sizer as the new Lapua cases are too big just below the shoulder. The form die doesn't work that area of the case. I also plan on buying a Wilson or Redding neck bushing die. My question is.... will a 6 BR die work with the appropriate sized neck bushing? Any other advice will also be appreciated.
cheers,

This seems to be a common problem, particularly with the 6BR. We have one rifle and the shoulder comes out about .4625" fired which is too big for the Wilson dies. There must have been a run of reamers that were oversized at the shoulder or maybe it's hard to hold the dimensions there.

Anyway a Redding 6BR body die or FL sizer or FL Type 'S' die will do what you want. A Harrell's or Redding FL Sizer with bushing will do everything you need in one pass and then you can use your Wilson seater.

Thanks. I was hoping I could buy one die and use it for my future 6mm BR too.

It is my chamber that is small I guess. As the necksized new Lapua cases bind on the body. Hope I don't need a small base die. At least the FL dies are the least expensive.

Thanks again for the prompt reply. I can order my dies and be shooting soon.

One thing to keep in mind is that the folks at L. E. Wilson will polish a tight die out for you. They make all of the dies to the tight side of the spec. and this is not unusual for this to happen. Just make sure that you send three to four fired cases from your chamber for them to use as samples.

thanks for the help, i just wanted to make sure that was ok before i blew my self up. There is alot of really nice bullets in .224. Im thinkin ill load 80 Gr. Berger VLD's in my little .223 if you think it will work. if i got the twist that should produce good accuracy shouldnt it?

gaintwist, +1 for what the Forum Boss said. I'd buy a Harrell's 6BR die size #3. I form my 22BR cases in this die as follows: Lapua brass, first pass through a .257 bushing then a second pass using a .253 bushing. You may have to go .001 or .002 smaller to chamber the case at this point, depends on your chamber dimensions. Trim the case to 1.500 AOL and you should be good to go fire form. Wilson makes a seating die specific to the 22BR and I'd suggest you get one with a Micro Top. My favorite load is 29.5 grs. Varget Rem. 7 1/2 primer and
Hornady 75gr. A Max bullet: velocity is 3150 from an 8 twist barrel 28 inches long.
It's a wonderful cartridge, easy to load and scary accurate. John Kruzan
