Reloader 17 for 6BR

Hi, I am going to pick up my new barrel (Bartlein, 1 in 8, 30 inches) for my 6BR and want to know if anyone has used Reloader 17 with a Berger 105gr VLD bullet. I intend to use Viht N150 or perhaps Varget. But a friend of mine suggested that for longer ranges than 600yds, it would be better using Rel 17 to give me velocities nearer the 3000fps mark.
Now I know that there will be a trade off and guess that this double based powder will be more of a barrel burner than N150 or Varget, but would like to know of any other downsides regarding this powder if anyone has used this combination of bullet/barrel twist etc.
Any information is appreciated.
Good shooting to All.

Les,
I've never used RE17, but would like to make a suggestion. And that is - don't get caught up in preconceived notions about what powder (or bullets) will work the best IN YOUR PARTICULAR RIFLE. Each rifle is unique and there are no guarentees what works well in one rifle, will work equally as successfully in another. Thats why we test all different powders that we see others using in a like bullet configuration. That Bartlein should work well for you and I've seen Varget work well in some barrels (Kreigers, Shilens, Harts, Lilja's, etc) using 105's & 107's and not so well with other 1:8 setups. SO my message is keep an open mind and don't forget to also test bullet seating depths once you find the powder that performs the best in your rifle. Finding the right components, as well as fine tuning those components, leads to the best results in each particular rifle. Good luck and have fun with that rig.

Hi Alex, yes your quite right and will try the different powders that have been recommended and select the best for that barrel.
Good shooting.
