Reloader 17 and 223

Any one shooting a 223 7 or 6.5 twist 80 or 90 grain bullet with reloader 17. I need a starting load.
Thanks for any help

I have been using 26.5 gr Re-17 behind 80 gr Berger Moly coated VLD's, SRM primer, 6.5 twist with excellent results.
This load is very warm, note that the bullets are molyed, start accordingly lower if your bullets are not. The SRM primers have thicker cups, handle the high pressure better.

I have also used 90 gr JLK's with lower powder charge, the Sierra's came apart on me, but
I think best results are obtained with the 80's.

One thing I forgot to mention, the above loads are used in a .223AI, you don't have enough case volume for the slower powders, also pressures are way too high.

Good info "fivering". I'm in the process of building a 1/7 twist 223 using a 26" SS fluted barrel. I have RE-17 and plan on using 80 grain SMKs and Berger VLDs out to 1k. I'll try some lighter charges for a starting point.

I'd try Alliant RL-15, since RL-17 seems a bit Slow-Burning for sufficient velocity regarding any .223 Remington application. I could be wrong, since I've never tried RL-17, but RL-15 presses the envelope regarding S-L-O-W burns in .223 loads. Cliffy
