reload 284 shehane

good evening everyone. I started to recharge this fantastic caliber.use powder vv 560
nosler rdf ball from 185grain.
barrel 30 "brux 1: 9
. for the forming of the brass I use 53.00 grain, the full load I am using 56.00 grain with speed of 850m / s. I would like to go up with the load .... I arrived at 57.00 the accuracy is diminished .... according to you how far I can get there, for now no sign of overpressure. sorry for my english and thanks a lot

VV N560 has a burn rate almost identical to H4831sc. Your best accuracy should be between 55.0 and 56.0grs. I would not worry about how HIGH you can go with the charge weight nor how fast you can go velocity-wise. Look for the best accuracy you can obtain and my bet would be right in the 55.0-56.0 area. VV N560 will produce quite a bit of velocity in and of itself.

I have read that the burning rate almost identical to H4831sc. the precision with a load of 56 grain is good even up to 1100y, but I had also read that almost all run around 900m / s, even if the life from the barrel is shorter ...

When I shot my Shehanes, it had been my experience that somewhere between 2885 and 2910 f.p.s. produced the best accuracy as well as the lowest e.s. spreads.. The biggest detractor for me was not a slightly shorter barrel life, but only about 3 good firings on the brass before the primer pockets loosened up. That's why I would rather have a 7mm S.A.U.M.! You can run up to 3000f.p.s. with out hurting your brass. BUT the trade off is MUCH shorter barrel life. But as far as the Shehane goes, I would rather get into the 2900f.p.s. range and better accuracy (generally) and better e.s.'s.. With VV N560, you might be able to get to the 2900 node without ruining brass as it does produce more velocity tit-for-tat over H4831sc. Give it a good run and see what will happen over the course of the life of your first barrel...

My 32" Shehane routinely runs ~2940 fps (~896 m/s) with H4831SC. Even if the burn rate is the same with VV560, the energy content may not be and velocity correspondingly different. My approach is to obtain low ES first, usually just below max load. Then, tune for precision with seating depth and tuner. My H4831SC loads were around 57.2-.4 with .220 freebore and ~.015-.020 jump. Brass life at ~2940 was eight or nine firings, after fire-forming.

thank you so much

It's not the powder that you want to run, but RL-23 Is cooler than either H-4831sc or N-560. I have NO problem running 180 class bullets @ 2,940 with RL-23 with long brass life, and single digit ES. It should go without saying that the accuracy is better than fair. ;)
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

I also found RL 23 to be the preferred powder for my Shehane with great speeds and better accuracy than H 4831 SC with 180 gr bullets.

Coincidentally I went to the range last week with my 7 shehane and my most accurate load was 56.5 gr of H4831sc at 2834 fps.
