Reforming - 6 x 47 Lapua

I just purchased 2 boxes of the 6.5 x 47 Lapua brass from Sinclair and the Redding 6 x 47 Lapua S Competition 3 die set, body die, S neck sizer die and competition bullet seater die) from Midsouth Shooters Supply. My gunsmith will have my 6 x47 Lapua BR rifle completed this month and I need to begin reforming the Lapua brass to 6mm. Many of the BR shooters used the Forester FL 6 x 47 Lapua die to reform the brass. Has anyone used the Redding S Competition 3 die set to reform the Lapua brass to 6mm? Do you use the body die first to reform the brass or do you just use S neck sizer bushing die to start the resizing process? I have various 6mm neck bushings from my Redding competition 6BR die set. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You might have trouble trying to neck down with a bushing die unless you do it in small increments. I first used a 6BR sizer with expander assembly removed. Then next bunch I used a 250AI with expander assembly removed die then ran them into a .269 bushing. Last time I tried my 6XC body die and it worked slicker then owl scat. So my thinking is your best bet to use your body die first and see how that works then into the bushing you intend to use. The body die may neck it down a bit more than the bushing but you'll have to experment.

I have a Forester FL die for the 6X47 Lapua and use it to neck down the 6.5X47 cases. Works very well. Unlike some of my older Forester dies the 6X47L die fits the chamber in the Pac-Nor barrel very well. However, for some other cartridges where I don't have a FL die, I have successfully used a Redding body die and two passes through a Redding bushing die to form cases. The body die will reduce neck diameter some. Check the neck diameter after body die sizing and split the difference with the desired final diameter for the intermediate bushing diameter. This method has always worked well for me. Since you already have the dies buy an intermediate bushing or two and give it a try. Vic
