REFORMING 229 RUSSIAN TO 6PPC

I have tried to find an answer here but I must be to dumb to understand the answers given.

I want to reform 220 Russian to 6PPC. My barrel has a .262 neck. I know there are at least two methods to do this.

Fireforming requires loading the case and shooting it. How do you get a 220 Russian to fit into a .262 barrel? What other steps are required in order to accomplish this. Do you turn the necks and trim the cartridge case length before fireforming?

Another method I have read about, is reforming the cases hydraulically. What other steps are required in order to use this method?

The last time I got a batch of cases, I had the process done professionally. As I like to do things myself, I thought I would give it a try.

I wish i could help, I had a friend order 100 220rusian cases for me (he had an FFL and got a good discount) when i paid him they were formed and neck turned. I asked and he says "I got bored".

Necks need to be expanded to 6mm and turned to the proper thickness before fireforming. These are ready to be fired for the first time.

1 Expand
2 Neck Turn
3 Size in a FL die enough to let you close the bolt with slight resistance.
4 Load with 9 gr of Bullseye, plug with plastelina. Or your preferred load
5.Go to range and start firing away
6 Come back home and measure cases and trim to length

I would recommend a fireforming barrel for this.

Easy

Or just send it to DJ's

Use cheap 6mm bullets and primers;). Turn neck. Size neck using a 257-258 bushing. Load with a powder normally used for 6ppc. DO NOT USE PISTOL POWDER. Jam hard into the lands and fire.

OR

Turn neck. Load with pistol powder. Put tissue in to keep from spilling powder. Fire. You should work your way up with the pistol powder. I use clays and start below the shoulder and adjust up or down, based on how well they form. Don’t use more powder than needed.

Nick! Question: What’s wrong with the brass you have? Do you anneal?
Caihlen, I did and thank you.

Josh, I have reloaded this brass at lease 20 times. Yes, I do anneal sometimes but not each time I reload it. I just feel that the brass is getting tired and since it seems to be the least expensive of all the items I use, I think it is time to get some new brass. This is the second barrel on this rifle and I want to give it the best I have. I like those little tiny holes in the paper.
