I have this suppressor that I no longer need. It was cleaned well in an ultrasonic cleaner before putting it away. I just read on the main message board that someone got approved in one day. It has 1/2-28 piston and a three lug adapter. If you want to file with the ATF and show me the stamp I will sell this for $400 plus shipping. I won’t separate and don’t want a trade. Thanks for looking.

I did some checking and saw that the price of these has come down since I bought. I paid over $1k at the time. Reduced to $400, the three lug adapter is almost $150.

Curious how an individual to individual suppressor sale works?
I thought it had to switch hands with a class 3 dealer who then transfers to an individual.

Which means it would have to go from you to a dealer, $200 stamp, then from dealer to receiving dealer assuming out of state sale, $200 stamp for new owner. Please correct me if I am wrong.

No dealer required, fill out a form 5320.4 and send $200. I asked the ATF and got this reply.

Good morning,

You may find a potential buyer such as another individual or local FFL. If they wish to purchase the item, you will fill out a form 4 and submit. Be sure to include all required documents and 200-dollar tax. Once the application is approved, the approved copy will be sent to you, and you may then transfer the item to that person/FFL.

That’s great info. If you don’t mind I will PM you to get some more details. I’ve been holding off on these kinds of purchases thinking there were two transfer fees and the assumption of another dealer involved.

Just remember like all firearms, silencers are restricted across state lines. You will have to transfer to an FFL across state lines and then to an unlicensed individual. This will be $400 in taxes, two transfers, $200 each. If you stay in your state this will be one tax paid transfer, $200. GLWS

I may not be correct on all of this but an individual can ship basically anything to any FFL(as long as that FFL will accept from individual). At that point the receiving dealer does the transfer to the buyer. Regardless of state lines or not. Anotherwards if I wanted to purchase. gkgeiger can ship to my dealer. I pay the $125 transfer fee dealer charges and the $200 tax stamp. Once approved I go a pick up the suppressor.

That’s what I’ve been told. I think the transfer fee can vary.

NFA firearms transfer tax paid unless one the following applies:

Both parties are special tax payers for the current tax year. Transfers tax exempt form 3.

Transfer is occurring to or from a government agency. Transfers tax exempt on a form 5.

Transfers from an estate to a named heir in the estate. Transfers tax exempt on a form 5.

If none of these apply, you transfer tax paid on a form 4 for $200.

Examples

Bob wants to sell Joe an NFA firearm in the same state. If you are not crossing state lines you can transfer tax paid on a form 4 between unlicensed parties, no FFL is required. That's one transfer at $200.

Bob wants to sell Joe an NFA firearm in a different state. Since firearms are restricted across state lines and have to go to a FFL, Bob transfers tax paid on a form 4 to a FFL in Joe's state. That is a tax paid transfer for $200. The FFL transfers to Joe tax paid on a form 4 for another $200. That's $400 in transfer taxes plus any fee the FFL will charge to Joe.

See the NFA handbook for more details.

There is also a component not discussed here, the individual transfers from a form 4 to a dealer in his state ($200 tax). It is then transferred to a form 3 at this dealer. Then transferred from this dealer to out of state dealer on a form 3 (No tax). Then the out of state dealer can transfer to individual on a form 4 ($200 tax).

I’m doing this transfer now on a machine gun and just the initial form 4 to form 3 transfer has been 7 months so far. Suppressors are very fast, just a couple of days so this transfer can happen in less than 2 weeks if going to an individual. But there is another $200 transfer so it will cost the time and $400 in fees.

Still not a terrible deal…..
