Redfield Palma Sight

You’ll still see ‘em if you look around, smallbore more than high power. They’re hard to find in decent shape, parts aren’t easy to find either if you need something.

And most of them are worn completely out. I have a couple and putting a dial indicator on the bar I can get several clicks before it begins to move.

The Palma has a anti backlash spring in it and it seems to work what I have found is the knob itself comes loose and you get endplay which turns into what people interpret as backlash. I fixed one with a precision ground shim but often it just takes a tightening of the knobs and setscrews.

I have at least one old Redfield Palma sight and at least a couple of the lesser Redfield sights nicely stored away in my safe that I obtained decades ago just because they were in awesome shape. I'll never use them so i guess i should see what market value is for them and move them to someone that could use them.

I'll probably contact Mr Scholl for advice as I imagine he would know the current value and who is in the market for them.

It's been covered. It doesn't last. I believe but do not know that the design moves too much and so wears too much with normal high power over the course recoil. Hence it works for rimfire and that's it. The Palma sight was highly anticipated and greatly disappointed everybody. Once bitten twice shy.

As I recall, the Army had them included with the M24 rifle system. There was also the Leupold MK 3? 10 x scope don’t know as many palmas actually got mounted on the rifle.
