Redding Slant Bed Concentricity Gauge

I haven't used this one but have the Sinclair concentricity gauge. I wish mine had a slant bed as it would make it easier to use, in fact I've thought of making a slanted base to mount the Sinclair tool on. I bought the Sinclair because I already had a digital Starrett dial indicator and couldn't buy the Redding tool without their indicator.

That seems to be the only difference...the gauge is tilted. How does tilting the gauge make it better? Making a tilted base would be very easy.

Am I missing something?

It is very easy for me to roll the case out of the roller ball contacts when I'm trying to measure TIR with the Sinclair gage. I shimmed the gauge to be tilted and it it felt more secure; I was better able to maintain the position in the roller ball cradle as I rolled the case. The roller balls are by necessity not very large. Maybe I am lacking in hand-eye coordination, and tilting it allowed me to pull it back against the nearest roller with additional force? The shimming I did was temporary. The modification I'm contemplating is mounting the concentricity gauge on a wedged block of wood that I will secure in a vise or clamp to the work surface. You are right, it is not difficult to do.

Years back, I had experience with a concentricity gauge that used cones. That particular one required a lot more effort to roll a case than the Sinclair does. Tools can have learning curves. I don't have a problem with my Sinclair. I just use two hands to roll the cases.
