Redding Dies NXGen

Hey, there can somebody tell me what is the dif is between the NXGen dies and the Premium comp dies?
I see the seater die has the numbers for presetting the depth which I would check anyway
I'm swapping all my dies out for Redding, 9mm, 45acp, 357/38spc, 10mm,44mag, 6.5 PRC, 6.5 Creed, 308 win mag, 223, 30-30
Which do you prefer NXGen or Prem.comp.

Maverick32,

I can't afford to swap out 20+ die sets, but I've been happy with the NXGen or Pro series dies sets I've recently purchased. The NXGen pistol dies are have a solid carbide insert which better conforms to the original cartridge profile than the one or two piece carbide insert(s) of the earlier dies. Pro series dies are for use in a progressive press, similar to the Dillon die sets, and are available in sizes Dillon doesn't carry.

NxGen Carbide is their newest carbide version, better than the previouse carbide die, hence the NextGeneration name.

There are 4 sets:
NxGen set
Pro Series set
NxGen Competition Pro Series set
Premium set

All four sets include the same exact NxGen carbide sizing die. The different sets have different seater dies and expander and crimping options. You can buy the different individual dies direct from Redding, but not usually at retailers.

NxGen set
- NxGen carbide sizer die, large radius mouth
- Standard Redding expander die
- Standard Redding seating die w/crimp

Pro Series set (for progressives)
- NxGen carbide sizer die, large radius mouth
- No expander die
- Pro seating die, large radius mouth for progressives, no crimp
- Pro crimp die, large radius mouth for progressives

NxGen Competition Pro Series set (for progressives)
- NxGen carbide sizer die, large radius mouth
- No expander die
- Competition seating die, bullet sleeve and micrometer, large radius mouth, no crimp
- Pro crimp die, large radius mouth for progressives

Premium set (for progressives)
- NxGen carbide sizing die, large radius mouth
- Special expander die, TiN coating, large radius mouth
- Standard seating die w/crimp, standard seating micrometer, large radius mouth for progressives

Check the part numbers before you order these! A lot of retailers describe one thing but the part number is something else, or they show an incorrect/outdated image of the dies or box/color. It's confusing, for sure.

I use the Redding Pro-Series in my Dillon 550 Presses. I looked earlier but then did some loading, some of mine are GenX some are not.
The only Premium dies that I have are .308 and 30-06. These are not the competition dies, but the ones with the micrometer bullet seating screw.

The Redding Pro-Series are much more user friendly than the Dillon dies imo. With a micrometer bullet seater, you can pretty much have pre-set settings for different bullets. Crimp dies always seem to need to adjusted depending on case, bullet etc.

If you want the top of the line setup, get:
#58172 NxGen Competition Pro set
#96172 Special expander die

Or get the individual parts because the comp pro set is always out of stock.

Doc,
I appreciate the feedback just setting NXgen Pro 9mm on the 750, Is it true to be said progressive handgun loading is more difficult than a single stage like a 550

DirtyDog,
Thank You so much for the clarification, I'm glad I asked before buying all different Cal. dies
I just received the NXGen pro 9 mm yesterday afternoon, watching some Dillon Vids on the XL750
Much appreciated Info

KenWind,
More good info I appreciate it, I'll be handloading all rifle Cal's on the RCBS RC Supreme, thinking about getting the 550 as well

Of course, I do. All in or not at all DirtyDog....! Thanks again for the info

Maverick32,

I only use a 550. I find the four positions allow me have a caliber setup toolhead for depriming/sizing (once or twice) and flaring. I use a caliber final sizing/filling/seating and crimping station if needed. For rifle cases, I don't use the press to seat primers or through powder. I prefer to hand prime pistol cases. Better results when hand primed.

Progressive sizing requires more attention/awareness of the details than single step reloading. I recommend finding someone in your area who can help go through the setup/diagnostic process. YT may get you started, but nothing compares someone with experience. Things like primer seating, speed moving the plate plus the powder height in the dispenser and cartridge case need to be watched fairly constantly.
