It's all perspective John. Did you move the shoulder back OR did you shorten the length of the case, from the shoulder to the case head, by pushing the case head further into the die? body gets shorter, neck gets longer. I know... semantics. Depends on which side of the tracks your from.

You guys gotta give guffy a break. He's old school. When your learn and practice something that uses specific and detailed terminology and meaning and watch those terms become slang and tossed about almost meaningless it becomes very frustrating.
Read a bunch of articles on web Md. then go tell your doctor what you think you know. Pay close attention to that strange look on his face when you speak. Deal with those people everyday, especially when they have no interest in learning something new or proper, and it will turn you off to those people. I wouldn't mind having a cup of coffee with the guy and pick his brain just for fun.

Its not necessarily what he says - sometimes, but how condescending he can be.

Well... I gotta give it to you.

You made me thunk some about this perspective thing.

First of all.. I didn't shorten the case - it is actually longer than is was, so there !!!

The real question is did the case go forward, or did the shoulder go backward. It is all that relativity stuff (like cousins and uncles and incest and stuff like that!!!!).

OF course, once'd I realized that, I got a compass out and checked the direction my press was pointing in, and DAMN, if it wasn't pointing east. Now, as you probably know, sinch you are one of those old time semantics guys - the earth is moving, er... rotating east - about 500 miles an hour at my latitude. So, is the shoulder standing still, and the case moved forward, but just a bit faster, cuz it was getting a "Time-space continueum" thingie accelaration boost from my arm pushing on the handle thing?

I don't know - or maybe the bump is really a bump in the wormhole thing, and the shoulder got lost for a nano-nano-nano-second, and when it got free from the wormhole in the time-space-contineum thing, it couldn't catch up cuz the earth movement had a nano-ripple in it.

Whoa! John, hold them horses!! I'm NOT one of those semantic kinda guys. You can call it messaging the shoulders and I'll get it.
I didn't say the case doesn't get longer. I just said it's perspective, did you move the shoulder back OR did you move the case head forward into the die (Shortening the case from the head to shoulder.) DAMN IT I sound just like em now! .
This could turn into a philosophical discussion...aaaaand I'm not really interested in all that. There are some people who want to get hung up on "how" it works and there are others that are satisfied knowing that it works "works well"
Man I'm telling ya, I had an attending surgeon that wouldn't answer a question directly to save his life. Why? Because he wanted me to think for myself . Used to piss me off. I swear he couldn't answer because he had no idea why, himself. Inevitably, I would resolve it myself.

This isn't rocket science and brain surgery for most people. It's suppose to be fun and satisfying. The way Guffy writes, reminds me of that guy. Including the "are you a moron?" demeanor. It isn't necessary. It pisses most people off. However, I CAN tell you that when I have read some of his jibberish, it has got me to think. That's all.
