Redding bushing size for 6.5x47L

What bushing size or sizes will I need for a 6.5x47L tactical rifle. No turn neck. It will feed through detachable magazines. Thx Ray

I have a .288 and a .289 Tin bushing. I use the .288 to size my lapua brass which loaded measures right at .290 on the neck diameter giving you .002 neck tension. Chamber in my rifle is .292 no turn.

That's close to what I was thinking. The brass walls are .0135 x 2 = .027 + .264 = .291. I wanted .002 to .003 neck tension so based on your loaded round outside diameter of .290 I can order a .287 and .288. Thx guys, I already have way too many bushings in other calibers that I never use. Ray

I don't recommend using a bushing neck die unless you NECK TURN, the reason being is that as we all know the thickness of the neck wall varies unless you neck turn. what happens is a bushing die only sizes the outside of the case neck, this moves all the variances in neck wall thickness ALL to the inside of the case neck, in my experiences this makes MORE runout than you would have with standard dies.

the only way to know what bushing you need is to measure it. figure .002 less than loaded round. when dealing with tolerances that small its really something you need to check yourself. if you are set on using a bushing neck die. I would turn the brass just barely enough to clean it up take off as little as possible, but still enough to clean up the necks.

Wouldn't seating a bullet move the inconsistencies back to the outside of the neck?

Turning necks on a tactical rifle is a waste of time. A full-length bushing die will do everything you want it to do. I use a 0.288" bushing on my 6.5x47mm tactical rifle.
