Redding bushing dies

How accurate is your accurate? And, how are you measuring it. I have read here many times that most feel the Redding bushings are not precise. The one bushing I am using is as precise/accurate as I have the tools to measure.

I'm not a fan of bushings for sizing the case neck. Even if the bushing is true, the use of them can and will cause case neck runout, if that is important to you.

The only way I can size cases and always have the case neck runout 0.001 TIR or less is to hone my FL sizing die necks to the diameter I want them to be, or to use a LCD (Lee Collet Die).

I think thats up for a long discussion. I would bet 95% of us could not tell easily. If you are in competition might be a different story. I shoot a lot just for enjoyment and use bushing dies for several cartridges. I dont measure concentrisity or turn any of my brass. If out to have a good time dont even think twice. If bushing accuracy is in question id look at concentrisity also of a loaded round.

I have been using the Redding bushing dies for a couple decades with their Ti bushings and they load very accurate ammo for my match rifles. You shouldn't get any excessive runout unless you are using them wrong. You should screw in the top on the bushing until it touches and then back off about 1/8 turn so the bushing is floating.

As to accuracy of the bushing for neck measurement, they are pretty much right on. I have used them with multiple calibers and no issues ordering the bushing I need to get about .002" of neck tension which is what i have found works great for short action bolt guns. .003-.004" or magnums or gas guns.

I have a chamber reamer with 0.003” diametral clearance for the case neck and a free bore diameter 0.001” larger than the bullet. I’ve applied transfer blueing to the case neck and bullet to check for contact in these areas due to a lack of concentricity and have yet to detect any exceeding the cited clearances on the rounds inspected. I use Redding bushings for sizing case necks. Perhaps I’m just lucky?

Having worked in close tolerance machine trades most of my life , I think I can say that the majority of the Bushings made are well within "spec", of the manufacturer . Yes ! There are times when a "Bad" Bushing will get past Q.C. , and get into the market . Rare . But it does happen . Frankly ; I don't think that the average competitor can shoot the difference knowingly , unless the Bushing is flat out junk . I have a small box of Bushings from Redding , Whidden and several companies . I've checked them all with four place Digital read-out Mit mics , and Ball Gauges . All were within tenths of stated sizes .
