Recon Mission Next Week?

Well, it supposed to be in the 60's next week! I'll believe it when I see it. :(

If it holds, I plan to go out to the few remaining farms and do some ground hog recon. I need an excuse to get into the field. :):) I try to resist the temptation to shoot any this time of year for fear of taking a female with pups. While after many years of hunting ghogs, I've developed a method to identify nursing females but it's far from absolute.

This may be the last season for me due to a variety of reasons, but I plan to make the most of it if my health holds out. I lost most of 2020 due to double hernia surgery and last year, well, just let me say it was the worst year of my life losing my wife.

K22, very sorry to hear of your recent loss. My sincere condolences, buddy.

Supposed to be warm here too later on this week. It raises my hopes for decent rat shooting weather next month for our annual "Rat Rodeo" in the Orygun outback. Hope your recon goes well and you have 'mass sightings!" :)

K, I certainly understand the sense of loss and the difficulties. I've often read your posts with admiration too. Suffice to say I have been praying for you. I certainly hope your fields are green, your breezes light, your groundhogs FAT and your rifle accurate. Rest in the truth that our God promises to lead us beside still waters, and (my favorite part) lay us down in green pastures. Psalm 23.

Whack 'em my friend

Thank you for the kind words and prayers.

These days, its more about just getting out in the fields and being close to nature. Oh, I still get a charge out of making a challenging shot on a hog but it's being out there that gives me the most joy.

My condolences to you I wish I could say or do more

K22, I like your posts, so keep them up! We all really suffer alone in our losses, just gotta grab happiness when we can. Guns, gear, and shooting has always helped me immensely. (Active meditation takes the brain off the cyclical downer thought process)

Get little victories every day!

Thanks for the kind works. Going on recon today - it's in the high 60's here with bright sunshine. Helps get my mind straight.

K22- I’m so sorry for your loss…will keep you in thought and prayers. You have always been one of my favorite posters…always enjoyed your stories about the g-hog hunts and your methods for shooting. Keep a great attitude and I hope you have many years left to hunt!

I think they've probably been out for a while if your weather is like ours has been. Coons, skunks and opposums have been out for a couple weeks.

Weather was great here yesterday, eastern PA. Visited two farms to renew acquaintances with the farmers. Didn't see any hogs but found about 8 holes in the tree lines that seem to be occupied / active. It was just great to get out of the house and get my mind off of things. Noting quite beats being out in nature.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm trying to work though it.

So sorry for the loss of your wife. The heart takes much longer to heal than the surgeries you've been thru. Can't say the heart ever heals from that kind of loss. Get your health well and enjoy what you love in life. Things do get better and doing the things you enjoy will help. Had a lot of life lost myself in the past two years. It never gets easier no matter how much you go thru. Prayers for you and condolences.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. May your pain also be eased. You so right, it's very difficult. It's the most difficult challenge I ever faced. You don't easily get over 48 years of marriage.

No Sir you do not. You will get thru it as impossible as may seem. Be strong
