Recommondations for Oregon Retirement Location

The wife and I are planning to retire to Oregon. We presently live in Washington, but I want to return to Oregon where I grew up on the coast. The coast, while in my opinion, is the most beautiful coast line in the world, doesn't offer much for the competition shooter. We had thought about Florence, here now on vacation and checking the area but it isn't the right place.
So, to all thoughs who live in Oregon, I am looking for recommendations for a good retirement location. Here is the criteria.

Tempered climate, most likely between the Coastal and Cascade Ranges
Close to shooting range for practice and play
Within 1-2 hours of a F-Class match, Mid to Long Range
Small town of 10k-20k
Good medical facility, unfortunately, it is that time in life to consider this
The town should have some of the basics, good groceries, cinema, home improvement, etc.
30-60 miles from larger community for that special shopping that must be done periodically
Our hope is to be able to buy a home or land with at least 1 acre and a shop

Don't have a ton of money for retirement, looking to spend no more than $300K for home and plan to start my business in the shop to help income and support my hobbies. I have a background in manufacturing.

We will be spending the next four years before retirement researching and checking out various areas. Your help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Patrick

Check the tax rate before you commit. I live in the coast range, taxes are getting out of control. I don't think I'll be able to keep my property once I retire, already @ $7k+ per year and I've got 10 years to go. When I 1st moved out here it was under $3k per year, 20 years ago, I only have 30 acres 25 of which are in timber.

Check out Lake Creek, Oregon. A nice rural area

20-25 miles from Medford OR. Almost everything you could want is there. Medical, shopping, etc.
Most properties in Lake Creek come with good acreage.

Shooting.. www.rvssa.org and www.mrpc.info

Have a friend that has property in Yamhill Oregon. Texas real estate taxes are tough. My appraised value went up $42,000 last year and $46,000 this year. I guess our saving grace is no state income tax.

thats why I'm selling my building rated commercial,,you can just about guess what I deal with,,moved to Tx. from Florida, don't ask why,,1/4 the tax and also no state income tax
everything in here is on SALE

I'd love to be able to afford to live in Oregon.

Same thing happen'n here in Texas. R.E. is going through the roof, along with my property taxes. OUCH!

A lot of Oregon towns are trapped by environmental laws as far as new development. If the population grows past 10,000, the town has to spend billions on new infrastructure. So development is very limited, which of course limits availability and drives prices up.

Coos Bay if you like salt water in the air. Medford is kinda plain and flat with lot's of different places within an hour. Roseberg for a VA facility.

I live on the Coast south of Newport. Yes, the nearest Long Range is 120 miles away, the next one 205. Somehow it does not bother me compared to fighting the M___r F____g LA basin I had to cross every time I wanted to shoot before. It was 65 miles to Camp Pendleton where we had monthly matches and there was no practice days there. There is a local range nearby out to 550 yds. so load developement is not an issue. It is so beautiful everywhere you look it is astounding.
Tax wise I find it more affordable than CA by far. My home is 1800 sq.ft. 1/4 mile from the ocean and my property taxes are about $3300 annually. Income taxes are about 9% but they do not tax Social Security or RR Pension.
Been five years and we're happy as clams!
PM me for more info.

Brookings, on the coast, Chetco river flows thru. Gold beach and Rogue river is 30 miles north.
Climate is milder in Brookings due to Chetco Effect.
My side of the hill is Grants Pass we see all 4 seasons. Great range but only to 300.
White City is 30 miles away they have 600.
