recommendations for a scope rail and rings for a Savage ?

I've got my Savage .243 project gun put together now and am going to get a Sightron 8-32X56 scope and would like to know what rings and rail would work out well to finish her off with?

I'm looking at the EGW HD F-class Savage rail and rings but I'm unsure on which ring height to buy?

I don't think I need the 20MOA rail since the scope has a 70 MOA range and I plan on shooting 600 yards or less with her mainly and even IF I did attempt some 1000 yard shooting wouldn't the 70 MOA handle that w/o any problem? According to a ballistics table I was looking at the load/bullet combo should have a 290" drop @ 1000 (107 Sierra Matchkings @ 3000 fps) so at 10"/MOA@1000 yds it should just take 29 MOA to get there, correct?

Id just get a 20 moa rail anyhow because even if your scope has enough adjustment, you still want to be as close to optical center as possible for extra clarity at long range.

Short range, optical center isn't that big a deal.

Id recommend a Ken Farrel base or a Bench Source base from SSS. Then just make sure you get good solid rings. All scope rings today around the $60 price range and up are pretty good if you lap them. You don't have a ton of recoil so I don't think you need NF or badger ordinance caliber rings IMO. But that's totally up to you. The more you spend, the better they get in most cases.

I've just finished a 6mm Dasher based on a Savage action, ended up using a EGW rail and a set of TPS mounts for the Sightron 10-60x, works well, but id say if the same as the previous poster, the Farrell base would be the nicest quality you'd find

Safe shooting

The EGW base is good to go. I suggest you use the Burris Signature Zee rings with it. The rings will provide up to 20 moa adjustment. If you use them with a 20 moa rail, you can have 0 moa, 20 moa, or 40 moa depending on how you orient the inserts. No worry about ring marks or lapping. I have a Nightforce 12-42,which I believe is the same size as your Sightron, mounted in the "High" Signature Zee rings on the EGW 20 moa rail and have ample clearance.

Umm, with the 30mm Burris Signature zee inserts and a 20 MOA rail, you have 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 MOA 'scope centers'.

Want to pick nits eh? ;D If you think about the relationship of the inserts front to rear, you can actually have any moa you want between 0 and 40!

Another vote for Farrell/Burris Sig Z.

Single shot actions= full rails. But there are some scenarios when one piece full rails aren't optimal.
For the top feed mags and large clunky gloved fingers, or very low scope like the Burris Eliminator or other optics with a full Pic rail on the bottom, and desire for better mag feeding access, Burris 2 piece 'tactical' style bases free up a lot of room.

Full rails that hang over the barrel nut and limit access irritate me, means I can't bed/glue down the rail. Lots of options and choices out there, pick one that suits.

Agreed. And I'm not nit-picking. With the two pair of zero inserts and the two pair of 10 MOA inserts provided with the 30mm rings, installing the various combinations with NO cant provides 0, 10, 20, 30, and 40 MOA.
And as you stated, by rolling to various cants, any combination between 0 and 40 is possible.

I went with your recommendations guys. Just ordered a EGW HD 20 MOA Picatinny rail and a set of Burris Sig Z High 30MM rings. :)

Thanks again.
