Recommendation: Powder Drop for Extruded Powder

I am looking for recommendations for a powder drop for extruded powder. To be specific, Varget.

I have tried using a Hornady powder drop. But it struggles with the extruded kernels.

I am not in a position to purchase one of the automated powder systems at this time. So I am looking for some recommendations for powder drops from those with hands on experience with what they recommend.

Thanks for your help.

The Lee Perfect Powder Measure is supposedly good with extruded powders and is inexpensive

Yep, the Lee handles Varget better than the Harrel's that I have now. Other thing to consider is switching powder, if you're close to needing a re-up and an Autotrickler isn't in the budget. I'm planning on grabbing something ball flavored for my service rifle loads for that reason, once I shoot my way through my current batch of ammo.

Ive tried the Hornady, RCBS, Lee perfect, and the Lee deluxe and the Lee deluxe powder measure is what I use daily for match and hunting ammo. The others are in a box. I did replace the bottle with the older style

If I need to run compressed charges, I pull out my crossbow bolt funnel. I used electrical tape to center an MTM funnel tip from their little plastic kit and epoxied a standard rcbs green funnel to the other end of the bolt. Works like a charm.

I agree with the LEE being better than my RCBS and Lyman (but they all still have a crunch at times) but if I were using them regularly I would probably go with the dipper but I've never used one. It would likely be the fastest if you are trickling the charges. If you are trying to throw the charge to your target weight then none are very good with Varget.

I too use a Chargemaster. A lot depends on how fast and accurate you won't to be. Without spending a couple of grand or more on the higher end dispensers the fasted method I've found is wo dump short and trickle up. For a reference I can load a 308 cartridge this way in about 20 seconds which is about the same time I can do it with the Chargemaster but the loads are more accurate.

I’ve been using an old rcbs and the cheap Lee for many years. Rcbs just released a new model 3 competition. I ordered one but haven’t tried it yet.

I have a redding 3BR, I bought the competition meter chamber for it and ended up using the 3BR body and the insides of the competition meter to get the most consistent powder drop. then it goes on the FX120I and i trickle up with a dandy trickler. works fine with varget.

I found that a Lee Classic (no longer made, I think) worked as well or slightly better than a Harrell's for extruded powder. They do wear out though, but for $39 to $59 it was still pretty economical.

Thanks all for the responses. Just to clarify. I currently use a Lyman G6 to pull the first, then onto my Sartorius CP64 scale where I use the Dandy to trickle in the last bit. Problem I have is the Lyman is all over the place. Too often throwing over the amount, a real PIA.

I will look at the Lee and the Harrell. Would be nice to find a used Harrell.

Last loading session, my Dandy started to give me problems, the slow button doesn't always work. Have at least 6 backup funnels for it. May have to buy another. My ultimate would be to upgrade to the Ingenuity Precision trickler. Essentially does what I do in my head, only faster.

On a side note what type of drop does the Prometheus use, it looks like an RCBS?

Again, thanks all for the input.

That’s why I keep a couple of them around.
