Recoil Pads and Silicon Socks

Has anyone ever experienced their recoil pads become gummy or sticky when stored in them silicone empregnated socks for storage. I just had to change 2 recoil pads due to the pads becoming brittle and sticky, actually falling apart. And the pads were decelerator.
Any info is appreciated.

I’ve been storing a few guns in the socks for six month periods with no bad effects but I use Pachmeyers.

I have a Rem 700 .260 that the factory recoil pad got gummy and sticky for no reason that i can find. I think it is the type of rubber used as some things like TV remote controls and such that have those covering do the same thing. I have tried alcohol, degreasers and such and it helps very little.

Not stored in socks, but I have had a couple limbsaver pads get gummy, not quite as bad as the photo above. Unknown reason, but disappointed regardless.

I had the same problem a number of years ago. When I contacted limbsaver about the problem, they promptly sent me two new pads for the affected guns. Don’t know if that offer is still good but it’s worth a try. At that time; they indicated a problem with their formula for the recoil pads. Hope this helps.

The gooyness is due to some solvents gassing out and the pad decomposing

I'm pretty sure something in my safe made my pads dissolve, pretty much fall apart.

I have some McMillan stocks with the original pads in perfect condition, and in storage for years already. Just my Kimber pad that had replaced at one point with a decelerator fell apart like a dry sponge. And another Kimber 82 Red recoil pad became gummy. Both stocks now have new pads so will see if they survive.

Limbsaver products must be built so they will deteriorate so you will buy another. I’ve used them on all my bows. 3-4 years and they start getting sticky.
