recoil pad

I have a Rem. 308 with synthetic stock. The recoil pad is not much, just a relatively thin rubber pad. After 45 or so rounds my shoulder is sore and bruised when I get home. I don't see any indication the pad is screwed onto the gun.

What is my process in removing the old pad and putting on a nice recoil pad?

Put a dab of vaseline or something like it on a phillips #2 screwdriver and about 3/4 of an inch from either end if you push the screw driver in you will find the holes if it is screwed on.If you cant find the holes it may be glued on from the factory in which case you will destroy it taking it off.If in doubt call remington and talk to a tech rep and ask them the right way to remove it.

You might try a Limbsaver slip-on pad before you take the other one off. They work very well, and I had the same issue. Shooting a .308 off a bench gets to be painful in a long session.

The Limbsaver smoothed it right out. Pachmayr makes the Decelerator which is quite similar.

Larry: I personally would not put a dime into the $2.95 synthetic stocks on some of the factory rifles.

A consideration would be one of the slip-on pads, made by Pachmayr, Kick eez, etc. Available in black, small, medium & large. Pages 760 & 761 in Midways catalog# 35.

The cheapest, quickest & effective fix.
