Recoil options

I started shooting F/TR with a savage 308. I installed an adjustable buttplate and fit into the shoulder is good. I use a firm hold but after a day of shooting my shoulder is sore the next day.

I am thinking about a grind to fit kick eez pad. Really do not want to wear a jacket.

Has anyone tried the EvoShield shirt with the moldable shoulder pad insert?

a friend of mine uses that shirt and although it works he often complains that when he shoulders the firearm he cannot feel where the buttstock of the gun is. so he has decided to go the other direction and put a recoil pad onto the firearm and quit using the shirt

Check out Graco recoil reducers that go in the butt of the stock...
They will make a believer out of you, the first time you shoot with one..

Bronc,
I bought an evoshield a while back. I really dont like it as the gel pack in the shirt hardens when exposed to air to form fit to your stock. Like your friend said, you cant feel anything after that. I put a regular gel pak in mine and it is a little better.

Every rifle that I build now has a kick-eze fitted to it. Used to use Decelerators which are still good but the kick-eze is better. Now Preacher has me looking another direction as well.

Gracoil is a great product...I'm putting one on my new rifle at this time. For me it's more than recoil help, I pull the rifle into my shoulder at the bench and this gives me a repeatable hold every time. One less thing to worry about.

Why don't you just add weight to the gun? You are allowed 22 pounds, and there is no arguing with physics!!! It works...every time. Just like gravity.

I sometimes shoot F class with my 300 WBY with full house loads with the 210 vld. It, too, got a little uncomfortable, so i added 5 lbs. Worked wonders.

Just a thought,
Tod

Yes it is f/tr. I have not had a chance to weigh the gun yet. It is not uncomfortable to shoot, but I have been dry firing and practicing my form on the gun every other evening. I noticed the tender spot the first practice session after saturdays shooting.

I realized then that might lead to flinching on the weekends where matches are on consecutive days and the second day would reveal any soreness from recoil.

With a hard hold and hard pad on the gun now it is just a matter of the number of shots fired.
