any need to update a savage ftr recoil lug to a SSS ground recoil lug and new nut? Having a new barrel chambered and was wondering if it would help.
Had the same queation. Re barreling a basically new savage action and asked about needing a new lug and nut. All the answers I got were YES. I can't understand why since the gun has no rounds down the barrel and both are new already. Answer I got was even tho they are new, the nut may not be a proper fit from new barrel to action and the lug may not be true to the new barrel lug surface. Personally I think they will both be fine and so I opted to use them and see for myself.any need to update a savage ftr recoil lug to a SSS ground recoil lug and new nut? Can't tell you yet. Haven't shot it. All the new builds I've done have been with new lugs. Since this is basically a new takeoff set up, I'll reuse the lug and barrel nut. I'm positive it will be as a new one would be.So you used the ones you had, or bought new ones, how's it shoot mine shoots really well, kinda hate to mess with something that I don't think needs fixed
