Rechambering a .30-338 Winchester

I am interested in rechambering a .30-338 and I am wondering if someone knows what my options are.

So here is the story. This is an old sleeved remington action in a McMillan stock that I inherited from an aging buddy. I suspect he spent a lot of money having it built as a hunting rifle back in the day. I have not shot it a ton, not having a lot of bullets loaded for it since I got it only with a couple of dozen custom loaded rounds. That and it kicks like a mule. So I have limited brass, no dies and not a lot of desire to invest a lot of time and effort into an outdated cartridge. So it is a dilemma as to how to proceed. Rebarrel, reload or rechamber. I would use it for hunting maybe a some long range target shooting.

If it was mine, I would buy some rcbs dies for $75, available at Graf and Brownells, and some 7 Remington Mag brass. Neck up the brass and start reloading.
Sierra has loading data. Its performance is not that outdated.
Rechambering is about a $250 proposition depending on if you have a guy that is inexpensive or not.
Some smiths aren't fond of rechambering barrels.

I am reasonably new to reloading. Is it easier to neck up a 7 or neck down a .338? Obviously 7 mag brass is more readily available.

Be careful, if I remember correctly, there are 2 versions. The 30-338 and the , dang brain fart time . I just had the other name and poof its gone . Anyway I had each chambering and one would not chamber in the other . Both were old sixties builds .

.308 Norma Mag?

Unless you know the neck diameter of the chamber, use 7 Mag. brass to be on the safe side. Good caliber, AMU used it for LR matches for quite some time.

Pretty simple, use .30-338 FL or neck die, preferably with new brass. Best to anneal used brass. If you opt for used, make sure the base area is not expanded too much for your chamber or you'll have to get a special die to size it down. I prefer to have new brass when starting to load for any belted magnum for that reason.

300 win mag is still available over the counter . Op says not interested in buying reloading components. Cheapest , easiest is to rechamber to 300 win mag or sell it .

Why don't you post some pics of this rifle? I wouldn't think a sleeved rifle was built for hunting? What diameter is the barrel at the muzzle? 30-338 was a very popular Long Range Benchrest cartridge a long time ago.
