Rechamber to cure throat errosion

If a throat were eroded to the point that accuracy was being affected can it be resolved by re=chambering. I have a .243 Ruger M77 '72 flat bolt and may decide to rechamber it in .243 AI. Will re-chambering generate a new throat. Im thinking it does.
Thanks Tom

The bbl has to be set back in order to get into fresh bbl material.

You want to take a look at the bbl with a borescope and determine if the bbl is a candidate for the setback.

See how far up the tube the firecracking is evident. Also, look at the lands and see the amount of damage/wear they have sustained.

That would be the deciding factor. Just running an AI reamer into the existing chamber will not solve any problems.

If you have a factory bbl, you also need to see if the chamber end has enough meat left for a setback.

Thanks Bob,
You answered my question to the letter. One more question. Is setting the barrel back the process that will determine correct head space?

Most likely you will be better off with a new barrel. The existing barrel has alot of heat treatment on it a second chamber will wear out faster than the first one did. Set backs are often not cost effective.

Most factory barrels can't be set back anyway.
