Rechamber 22short to 22lr

Hello,

I have a french gun GAUCHER 6mm chambered in 22short and I would like to fire 22lr ammo. Could someone tell me if it possible to rechamber it to 22lr.

I need informations about your experiences. What are risks and diffuculties? Any http links are welcome.

If it is a 6mm rimfire, that is a slightly larger cartridge than a 22 rimfire and the rechamber will not work. The 22 Short will chamber loosely but cases can split if fired. And, are you sure it is a rifle? There are 6mm shotguns, too.


If it has been changed,relined) to 22 short, the risk is that the rifle may not handle the pressure of modern 22 LR cartridges if it is an old design. And if it has the correct twist for 22 Short, the 22 LR bullet will not stabilize.

I think you need to have your project evaluated by a good gunsmith before proceeding.

Yes it is. Actually it can fire .22 CB and .22 short

I want to convert it to 22lr. I am sure it is a 22 short.

I bought it in 1999. It was a new one not a second hand.

I do not know the twist rate of the rifle. It have 8 grooves.

If the rifling twist is too slow for the 22LR, you will have no accuracy. It is likely to be slow because the 6mm has a lighter bullet.

If the dimensions of chamber, barrel, and twist allow rechambering, someone will have to make a judgement about the rifle strength.
