Recently made two new purchases one was better than expected and the other less.

I recently bought a CED Chronograph to replace my old Ohler 33. The New chronograph with IR screens is better than expected. As I was told by Dr. Ohler it is hard to compete with the chinese.

Yesterday, I got my new Leica CRF1600. It was clear and ranged well in the yard. The balistics programing is a joke in comparison to what I was using. i.e. real ballistic program with my personal data entered, along with rangefinder, and PDA with Excel program.

I can carry a rangefinder, and a datasheet and do the same thing as the CRF 1600 does for a lot less. The CRF 1600 has it's limitations to 12 or 24 balisics parameters and only works approximately to your balistics not exactly as expected. the charts only go out 500 yards. I expected 1600. Maybe I am missing something.

White light vs Infrared

I have a Chrony (old model 25 plus years) I have a Ohler 33 that is also about 20 years old. Both operate with white light. The Chrony has been upgraded to have white light defussers and the Ohler came with lighted diffusers. The Chrony always gave me error messages when used under the trees.

The Ohler was much better and more reliable. It is just falling apart with age.

The New CED came with white light diffusers. I bought the Infared screens upgrade. Worked great under the trees and in late evening light. No missed shots.

I did not do a velocity comparison. But just knowing the loads I would say they were comparible. to the Ohler 33.

I have made comparisons between the Ohler and the Chroney and they were about 20fps difference.
