Recent Potential Short-range Group World Record

Ha, I guess I wouldn't have made a very good detective.
No worries Jerry. I’ve have 21 HOF points shooting Krieger barrels. However, if I believe some other barrel maker is producing an outstanding product, my order will be in the queue. I have tried them all. I believe it comes down to the steel, manufacturing quality control and tolerance, and effective hand lapping. I don’t want a barrel over-lapped that shoots well early, but last only two or three matches. I’d rather have a barrel that has a break-in period (somewhere around 200 rounds) and allows me to shoot it for multiple nationals with several regional matches in between! Just my opinion from 25 years of Benchrest competition.

I notice that CRB does not offer a 30 in 1-17 or 1-18 twist.
Jackie,
Since it is cut rifling would it require different tooling to cut slower twist rate barrels. I think Shawn (Hawk Hill) was using an old Pratt and Whitney rifling machine so assume CRB is the same. I know almost nothing about this area of machining.

There are a lot of Old machines in the premier cut rifled barrel factory I've been in. WWII machines and some came from across the pond.

I stand to be corrected, but I think the hook tool is the same, since the sine bar angle is what induces the twist in the cutter.
There may be some variations in the clearance angle on the tool from a really fast twist to an ultra slow.

I suspect there might not be a big enough market for 1-17 and 1-18 30’s once you get past the Varmint for Score guys.

I stumbled across this thread. I'm Austin Buschman and I run our rifler daily at CRB. I also make all of our rifling tooling in house. The rifler we use is a twin spindle P&W that has been converted from hydraulic operation to CNC. We can and have done 1:17 or 1:18 twist barrels in any caliber. Just call in and place a custom order. We can make pretty much any twist. We only make 4 groove barrels and we can't do gain twist.

As to the potential record I remember someone messaging Orgain and telling him they were submitting a potential short range bench rest agg record in mid 2024. I have no idea who.

I would be glad to get one of your 1-18 twist 30’s.
I know my ay around the 30 BR pretty well. Since I do my own barrels, I could have it up and running in no time.
I do prefer the standard LV profile, starting at 1.200.
I called and left a message.
