28 Dec 2020 - Recap of the URSA NorCal Dec ‘20 event (by RD, Lynn Dragoman; build info and comments and stats from Oscar)

Well, the weather cooperated - we didn't get any rain and had pretty clear conditions.

Shooting at 2054 yards, our own Skeeter, White Mamba, and Ken Eng all qualified for the first match with Skeeter (the owner/gunsmith at Billy Goat Machine) taking the win, Ken was Runner-Up.

We had time so we held a second match with Skeeter, Ken Eng, and White Mamba all getting four hits at 2054 yards. When that happened, we moved back an additional 500 yards (to 2586) and, without any sighters (shooter’s choice), went hot for 10 more shots. [Ken Eng ran out of ammo, so he didn't shoot.] Skeeter was up first shooting one of his own builds, a 338 LM IMP, and, with the sun on the target, we could all see his splashes. When the lights went off on his 7th shot he jumped up and gave a fist bump only to hear me say, “This isn't sudden death, keep shooting.” He quickly got back on his gun and got a second hit making him King of both matches!! White Mamba was runner-Up.

It's hard shooting when you’re that excited but if you ever built your own gun from parts, and reloaded up a bunch of ammo, then looked from one mountain top across thousands of feet of open canyon to see a light flashing at you, it's quite invigorating to say the least.

Congrats to one of CalGuns’ gunsmiths, Skeeter, on his second and third wins this year! You did very well my friend. Also of note, White Mamba got 5 hits in 10 shots during qualification for the first match, thus qualifying him for the 2021 3K match.

Skeeter was shooting 300 gr Berger Elite Hunters out of a Billy Goat Machine-built 338 LM IMP with BAT HR action, Bartlein barrel, Manners TF1A stock, and Premier (remember them) scope. White Mamba was shooting 230 gr Hornady A-TIPs out of a Desert Tech/DT SRS-A2 in 300 Norma Magnum with 5-25 x56 Schmidt & Bender scope.

Three entries? Just curious how many entered to try and qualify and didn't make it?

Some confusion, three qualified for record round. There were more entries - some that showed up and attempted to qualify (needed 3 hits in 10 shots at 2054 yards) and some that had to pass after registering (COVID-related).

OK, thanks, was just wondering. Sometimes making a match too difficult to qualify for may lead to shooters finding other venues to shoot at.
