Rebluing old Rem. 1100

I'm trying to refurbish an old 1100 as a starter project in gunsmithing. It was rough, the original 30" vent-rib barrel was beyond saving. I'm trying to reblue the receiver and a smooth
bore slug barrel. And I'm wondering how important it is to get all of the old blue off ? I'm talking about the little nook and cranny stuff, around the base of the rifle sights, up aganist the junction of the mag tube and receiver ? The stuff that won't come off after 3 or 4 coats of acid !

And maybe more importantly, the inside of the receiver. Do you have to scrub every little corner clean ? Will the new hot blue stick to the old bluing ?

If your concerned about all the little nooks and cranny's, hunt up a bead blaster, or do the detail work with little sanding pads....
It's not necessary to worry about the inside of the receiver.... other than being sure it's clean before dipping it.......

Thanks Preacher, I'm just getting my feet wet in this stuff. I just wasn't really sure how much it would show up through the new blue, if at all ! The inside of the receiver only concerned me because of the shape it was in. Don't get me wrong, it's not some civil war relic dug up out of a field dirty and rusted. But there is some light pitting on the barrel, and the inside of the receiver and trigger assembly had enough sludge to plant a tater or two !

I was just wondering if it would be worth the effort to use the birchwood casey inside the receiver to clean that crud out ?
Or if just a good simple green scrubbing would do ?

I haven't got a blue tank yet, but I'm guessing there's probably a pre wash before bluing, am I right ?

I know it's only a learning project, and I can't really mess up ! But I wanna avoid a few pitfalls if I can.

The inside, and outside of everything needs to be spotless or the sludge will contaminate your bluing solution.
I clean my parts in a ultra sonic, but a parts washer will work about as good.
They do go in a pre bluing solution of a good soap based cleaner before they go into the bluing tanks.....
Don't use S/S tanks with Oxnate 7 if you go that route......
Do much different than's above and you WILL mess up....
