Rebated boat tails - .172

No 25grn in stock..
They only show 20grn"
Try this page:

Edit: My bad. When I clicked on 100, it shows out of stock. Oh well.

Try this fella.
I have bout 2k of his hollow base-hollow point .17 caliber 30grn bullets..

My .17 Remington pushes them accurate and fast.
My .17 Hornady hornet don't have the pep behind to do so.

I don't have a caldwell*

But my magito-speed does great up to 4400 fps
After that it laughs at me!..

I was just pondering the used magnetospeed in the classifieds too. On one hand I'm not expecting too many loads over 4400 fps but on the other - that's something to try for. What loads are you pushing that outpace the 4400fps.

Is a top load of CFE223 and 20grn Vmax.
25.9grn...don't recommend you use it"..
Not accurate!

Edit" forgot 44.6grns IMR4064 and 40grn Vmax
220swift!...
Also not accurate*.

Magnetospeed works great with.17’s. Make sure it’s mounted properly and set the sensitivity as high as it will go. I have the sporter model and it picks up 15.5 ntx over 5000fps.

The MagnetoSpeed V3 picks up the 15.5 gr 17 cal Hornady bullets at 4900 fps on Normal setting on mine ...same a 50BMG 647 gr or 750 gr. Setting it up properly it reads most every rifle bullet and you can walk around shooting with it attached. I've had on for years, ordered another...it failed to work out of the box, just on or off light up, stuck, no mode buttons, no arrow buttons worked...sent it back for a refund. Their electronics department may need a little QC.
For my old one that was damaged by the 8.6 Blackout 3 twist blew up the bullet as soon as it left the confines of the barrel. The unit works great after replacing the bayonet.

Thanks for the info, I missed on the used one for sale - I'll watch for deals and try to pick one up in the near future. Today is loading day and tomorrow will be range day with the rbt's if the weather holds, I'm going to try them over cfe blk.

For anyone that has been following or is interested, here's the range report. I shot 5 - 5 shot groups with both the RBT's and Hornady 15.5 Gr NTX

Notes:
- Details are in the pictures, I feel obligated to say that load data is for reference only and use at your own risk since this is a public forum.
- Another member here saw my posts and sold me some verified Hammett bullets which are identical to the ones I originally posted, I feel confident calling them Hammett bullets.
- This was my first time loading 17 hornet and I had a heck of a time. I learned in the moment that my funnel was too big and had to modify a file and 3D print one to work. For the first couple of rounds I felt like I was spilling as much powder as I was getting in the case. I definitely need to slow my chargemaster down to get more accurate metering with the CFE BLK.
- I ran the chronograph data through a BC calculator here https://bc.geladen.ch/labrabaco/labrabaco.html and it gave me an average of .138 G1 for the NTX (Hornady publishes .115) and an average of .189 G1 for the RBT's.
- There were no signs of overpressure so I'll probably load a little hotter next time and see what the groups look like.
- The stock is skim bedded on the action lug only. It came with a pillar bedded thumbhole stock but it wasn't as comfortable for me so I put this once back on, so it's not a bench rest stock.
- Vortex 6-18 scope came with the rifle, it was crisp and clear but is not a fine reticle for precision shooting.
- I measured the MOA center to center of the furthest spread of holes.

I’d be interested to learn how the NTX bullets performed.

I’d be interested to learn how the NTX bullets performed.

They didn't group quite as well, maybe due to the wind or maybe the load needs to be refined more - I'm really not sure since this was my first time shooting the rifle and with so many variables. It'll probably be a few weeks at least until I have time to get back out there - hopefully I'll have found a deal on a magnetospeed by then and I can really load the NTX's up and get some data.
