Rebarreling M38 1896 Mauser and need front sight help

So I have a M38 1896 Swedish Mauser I'm going to have Mc Gowan barrels rebarrel it for me duplicating the factory contour so I can just drop it back in the stock and go shoot it. I put a Lyman rear aperture on it but am needing to reinstall a new front sight. Mc Gowan won't do any front sight work. So I'm kind of grasping for a solution here. What I'm thinking is to have the local 'smith install a Williams front sight ramp and put the appropriate blade in it. Or I would like to find a front sight like Mo's clamp on adjustable ladder globe and go with that. Of course I'd have to have them leave the muzzle diameter large enough for that kind of sight to work. Are there any other or better solutions I'm not aware of? Thanks

I agree. Install a new blade on the old band. Match sight bands are usually for larger diameter barrels and probably won't fit the original barrel contour.

Carl Gustaf's 1905-elit diopter sight, and the rear sight that goes with it. If you are going to the trouble of matching barrel contours get the sights that the Swede's used and have the best.

Do you still have the front sight band? Then just get this

I agree. The problem is Mc Gowan won't do any front barrel work. So is that front sight a band that slips on a turned down shank and is silver soldered? I'd like to keep the original look but is just a pleasurable shooter.

Originally, they were silver soldered on. If you're not too fussy, you can super glue the ring on. Easy to remove with acetone.

There are always some on ebay, both front and rear sights as used by FSR in their competitions (FSR is analogous to the NRA over there)

You can get clamp on front mounts or have a smith drill 2 holes to add a front sight block then you can add a Lyman front sight as well
