rebarrel FN mauser 98 commercial 25-06 shilen barrel

have a FN 25-06 and picked up a .308 prethreaded barrel for it. Can I use the long action on the 25-06 for the .308 cartridge? Is the only issue a feed problem due to the longer trap? Are there other issues?

I hesitated to reply because the only experience I have was a .308 match rifle built on a std '98 large ring military Mauser. However, I did shoot over 2000 rounds through it in NRA Highpower matches. I never had any trouble feeding the .308 ammo in rapidfire or slow fire. All rounds had to be fed out of the magazine, so that's a couple thousand times it was tested. My reason for hesitating is that I don't know if the feed rails or follower had been modified. What I do know though, is modified or not, it fed flawlessly, so it can be done.

Hope this helps. Tom

I have no hesitation to reply posiitively. Consider many miitarry actions also intended for 30.06, and this includes 1903, P14/US 1917 were converted to . 308 and function no problem.

The only advice is if you use it as a repeater, ensure the cartridges in the box magazine are well at rear when loading.
