Rear Bag Recommendation

My rifle does not fit my rear bag. My stock is a Richards BR laminated. The bottom of the butt stock is essentially flat and parallel with the forearm. It is 1 & 3/8" wide all the way. I am going to have to order a new bag and sure would like to get it right the first time. I think a two or three stitch to get the right spacing between the ears. . Does anyone out there shoot a stock like this? What bag do I need? Later! Frank

I have several stocks like that and my Edgewood Minigater with the "Shehane" stitch works great. The long, Minigater ears track really well.

1 3/8 inch is pretty darn wide. Not sure but the 2-stitch Minigator I had (and sold) would probably be much too narrow for that piece of timber you are working with. I feel that if the gun rides too high up on the ears then there will be too much movement. There are a couple makers that will custom make a bag for you and after wasting lots of money on ill-fitting bags can honestly recommend getting it right the first time. I think Edgewood and or Protektor can make a custom ear spacing for you. Brunos has a 3/4" wide bag maybe called a Sheane stitch since it's so wide but yours is even wider.

I obviously need to pay more attention. For whatever reason, I read that as 3/4". Maybe I saw what I expected to see. That is a very wide toe. I don't think that I have seen one quite that wide on other than a heavy bench gun.

www.protektormodel.com call them up tell them what you need and they'll make it for you.
I'd recommend thier DR bag for your application.

Thanks for all the replies. I am debating whether to order a custom bag or mill the stock. The custom bag sounds like the way to go. This was my first go round building a rifle several years ago. I can't imagine why they built the stock that wide. Some days it tracks well and the next it sucks. Thanks again. Later! Frank

If it tracks good sometimes and not others you may want to try spending an extra minute when setting up to make sure everything is plumb. If I rush and forget to plumb the rear bag to the front rest it won't take long to figure it out as soon as you start fighting to keep your sight on target. its almost always a rear bag alignment issue. try to set up and slide the rifle back and forth while slowly adjusting the angle of the rear bag till it is paralell to the stock and confirm by looking thru the scope while doing it a couple more times. when you get it right there is almost no adjustment needed when you slide back to battery your crosshairs will be right back on the target. bag should be full of sand and the ears should not be flopping around.

A bag that has to much sand in it is also a bad situation!!! I prefer a little less sand usually! Lee
