REAMER OPINIONS PLEASE

tillroot1

Misplaced Wyoming Lineman.
Guys, im looking at buying a JGS reamer for my wife's gun in 6.5x47 Lapua, im thinking of light turn necks or no turn necks, my question is have anyone had a reamer spec'd out for running a 140 Berger VLD with the bottom of the bearing surface ending up at the neck/shoulder point? If so, is that a over the counter buy or a special order? I should add, this is a 600 and 1000 yard benchrest, single shot action.

Thank you,

Ron

I had one, dropped it on the ground and ended up chunking it, so I can’t help with that.

But what I can help with is suggesting that you have your brass in hand before deciding what a no turn would be. I’d want .004 clearance at bare minimum.

Good luck! Wonderful choice.

I did this, but with a Berger 130 VLD. Attached is what they made me. I don't turn the necks. Cool thing about being "on a program" so to speak, is once you learn what it likes, you have a great place to start on the next barrel. I like.

@X-Caveman is spot on about “the program.” I use the same reamer, same bullet, same powder, etc and load development is super easy.

I can remember when I had my first 6.5x47 built. I asked the smith about a load suggestion and he said if it wouldn’t shoot 3*.5 of Varget and a 130 Berger I should bring it back to him. The lightbulb went off then and there. I buy all my own reamers and the only time I have to do any real development is if I want to try out a new bullet- which I don’t think is a problem anymore as I’ve got enough of everything I like to last a lifetime.

I have all my reamers cut for the 130 Bergers. Nothing wrong with the 140’s but in my opinion this chambering works best or is better suited for the 130.
