Reamer for no turn neck 6ppc Norma brass

I am looking to have a barrel chambered in a no turn neck 6ppc and plan to use Norma brass. My question is will a .268 reamer work or will I need to use a .269 or .270. Lee from on the forum has a .268 reamer and I was going to have him do the work. I am just wanting to make sure that reamer will work. My brass should be here by the end of the week. It is new Norma brass. Any advise and help is appreciated

This is just for an informal competition gun for some shoots my buddy has. I am not wanting to turn necks but still want an accurate rig.

.268nk youll still need to turn your necks. To be safe you’d need a .272+ nk to be no turn. You could always send your brass to dj brass service to be turned and never have to worry about it. To get the best from a ppc youll be happier with the .268nk and turned brass and youll also be way happier with lapua. Dj can hydroform and turn your necks for you with a quick turnaround and theyll be ready to go and perfect

Or you could go ahead and send your brass to lee to turn for you since he has a turn neck reamer- tell him i sent you for that free work. :p

If you're set on Norma, I'd Load a couple with your bullet of choice and measure with a quality instrument.
(Tolerance stacking across lots of brass and bullets.)
Some reports and my experience suggest a 0.265-0.2655 loaded round (no turn Norma) should/would work just fine in the 0.268nk.
I have no idea if their neck thickess has changed since I last purchased.
FWIW, the lapua will measure as much or more than 0.271 loaded (no turn)

Lee has made several posts over on Benchrest Central regarding headspacing the Norma 0.007" short. He knows what he is doing and will set you up for success, but I too would recommend planning for Lapua from the start. The minor outlay, upfront, in prepared brass and complimentary sizing die will save you more time & money in the long run. If you have no need to hammer the brass it'll outlast your barrel's competitive life.

I'd settle on your bullet profile (BT or FB) in advance, as well, before discussing freebore.

Are you sure about that? I just had a new barrel chambered for Norma brass, no turn neck 6PPC. Neck diameter is .267. I did absolutely nothing to the brass except pick out 25 with the same base to shoulder length, loaded up some H322, 58g V-max, and CCI400 primers. Went to the range yesterday for barrel break-in and brass forming. Shot a VFS target with the last 5 rounds. 50-3X. Came back home and wiped off the brass with Crazy Cloth, loaded some match bullets with my match powder and measured loaded round diameter. .266-.2665. They chamber just fine. Bullet is 65g Bib (.790 Jacket). My Norma brass measures .011-.0115. dedogs

I use Norma 6PPC brass out of the box, no neck turn. I have used Berger Columns, Barts Watsons and Sierra 60 HP for fireforming. The loaded neck diameter with all 3 bullets measured .2653 to .2657. A .268 reamer is perfect.

It is true that Norma 6PPC brass shoulder length is short for the typical PPC reamer specs with regard to headspace. Mine is .009 short before fireforming. Seat your bullet of choice long for jam and you'll be fine.

I use both Norma and Lapua and see little if any difference in accuracy, and not having to fireform (or pay extra for forming) makes the Norma attractive and nearly fool proof. For what the op is wanting to do the Norma will serve him well. Jme. WD

I stand corrected! Sounds good. I havent bought a piece of norma ppc brass in many many years and havent seen nor heard of anybody using it either. It used to be thick enough you had to turn it even when i used a .269nk back in the day. Glad they got a good size now so you dont have to turn it. Let us know how it works out lee will do you a fantastic job i know that

A few guys were shooting new Norma Brass yesterday at Kansas City! shooting No Turn brass or just skimmed using 269 necks preloaded I might add ! My 20 pieces of Norma Brass shooting 30 grains of 8208 XBR still had tight pockets after 2 matches I have a 267 neck and skim it to 10.50 with a conaway bullet, gives me just under 2 thousand clearance ! I like the Norma Brass and it sure is easy to make new brass up it saves time ! I think you will see more of it used !
