Really liking Marine Tex

I like West System resin for fiberglass work because it flows well. I would not consider it for bedding.

Marine Tex is good for bedding since it does not flow. But, I've used JB Weld for bedding and it has done well for me.

I am another Johnson's Paste Wax fan. Been using it for years making fiberglass parts. The only time it failed on me was when I rushed a job and didn't get all the nooks and crannies filled with clay. I guess the wax didn't really fail, I did :)

Don't worry, if anything Marine Tex Gray lightens with age and is much lighter in shade if scuffed or sanded. Having said that, Marine Tex WHITE is a cheaper but entirely different product with much less robust shear-resistance and compressibility - definitely NOT recommended for composite stock repair and/or bedding.

I have only used Marine-Tex in my bedding which so far has been 4 Boyd's stocks, 1 Richards Microfit and have another Richards waiting on the bench.

Have thought of trying J-B Weld but so haven't.

I've used JB Weld in the past, it thin and runny when first mixed. It needs to sit about 30-45 minutes prior to applying. My only advice is to use plenty because it moves and can leave voids.

It is all i have ever used. I just don't care for the mix ratio. 50\50 like other epoxies is so much easier.

I have come to like chassis. Bedding was once a fun project, but now it's just a chore.

I did use that Dev-Con titanium stuff once, for my first Alum Pillar bed job 30 or so yrs ago
(back when you could work on your own gun after work, in the shop of an industrial mfgr)
The V.P. came up to me and asked "whatcha doing?"
---Ummm just working on my stock
Hmmm, ok, as long as you're clocked out

came out realllllly nice
I ended up selling that stock to someone just a couple yrs ago and they mentioned liking the bedding job.

(I bet it's a totally different formula now without the "Good Stuff" in it )
