i am seriously contemplating a large rifle build. something like the 416 barrett or the 460 steyr. for those of you that have something like this could you explain how you chose the cartridge? the two of them have pros and cons and i have been known to talk myself into things.

questions
1-brass life
2-barrel life( may not be an issue with component availability the way it is)
3-reloading data ( not fever dreams, real world data) not much online that google will let me see.
4-what you are shooting and your rifle specs , anything i should know that surprised you with your rifles.

i am at the very early stages of this and i have not picked a platform or cartridge , please offer any advise you can. thank you

You should get in touch with Paul Phillips, he runs the 416 barret
Talking to him he gets very little life out of brass.

Warner Tool forms 416 Barrett from RWS 50BMG brass. Fifty pieces for $352.
Barrett offers options for Ruag @ $110/25 or buy Barrett brand loaded ammo for $79/10.
All subject to availability of course.
I would, not assuming to know what it entails, want to buy Lapua 50BMG and make my own 416B.
Don't know who sponsors Paul but I would guess he isn't worried about brass life too much as long as the 416 Barrett keeps performing well for him.

I just made my 460 brass, made the tooling to make the brass and it's a very simple process.
