Real World Velocity for 6AI

I am going to be rebarreling my Savage in 243 to 6AI. I see some questionable velocities given for some loads. I plan to shoot the 87g V-Max and was wondering what would be some realistic velocities to expect without trashing my brass. Your loads would be appreciated particularly with the 87's. Thanks

I don't believe in shooting max loads but here's some of the velocities I got from a 25 inch barrel 244 AI, WW brass:

87 grain VMax - 3441, 3488, 3450, 3514

80 grain Blitz - 3502, 3575, 3500

Those are 5-shot averages, not single shots.

I don't like to give specific loads but will say that I used N560,RL 22, H4350, and H4831.

Like Ray I don't like to give out load data. I've reached 3650 with the 87 VMAX and RE 22, but that kills cases in one shot. I get decent case life if I keep my loads around 3450 at the top end. I've also had good luck with H1000 and the 87 VMAX, 88 Berger as well as the 95 Berger VLD. This is all in a 10 twist Krieger barrel, lopped of at 26 inches.

I shot the 80g Sierra Blitz with a max load of R#19 at 3850 with amazing accuracy.

70g Sierra Blitz kings loaded with 51.5g of 760 shot very tiny groups at 4150 fps, never full length sized the cases. This was not a max load in my zero freebore, Shilen barrel, but work up to it in yours. Fire forming load was 40.5g of 760 with the 70g Nosler BT@4050 fps with amazing accuracy, barrel 26" long.

Winchester cases are much stronger than Remington in the 6 AI. Winchester 257 Roberts +P are weaker than Winchester 6mm Rem cases.

For field shooting live game animals, the Sierra 80g Blitz makes the 87g V Max look like a very tough bullet!
