Real Simple

The bag stabilizer with sand around the edges and a void in the middle solves a lot of problems when rear bags don’t want to sit solid and flat on the bench. I’d never shoot without one.

Another vote for moisture under the bag on concrete benches......;).....If you feel the need to shoulder the gun.
Be sure when you get up there to wipe off the bench. My donut sometimes " bleeds" out a bit of media and others do as well.

Nick I shoot with a couple of IBS board members and they use either the "Otto bad" or a variation of it or a no slip sheet of shelving material glued to their bag or a 1/2" piece of rubber matting cut out to fit the dimension of their bag with no slip under it. We shoot on manufactured wood benches and they are slippery and a little water would more than likely make them worse.

The reason I brought this up in the first place, I was invited to the Thurmont by Dean Breeden, where I spent the under his tillage. First thing he did in setting up his rest, was to put a non slip sheet of what he called Real Simple. Dean is a well respected UBS and IBS competitor, and has set a few records.I don't believe he would have advised me to do anything that might violate their rules.

On bottom of my bag I paint it with the liquid rubber, cheap from hardware store. Beneath on spacer boards, I apply a layer of adhesive backed 200 grit tape. Both these grip well, do not slide, and are so thin so as to not disrupt the original surface.

Another factor to mitigate bag sliding is to reduce friction between the bag and rifle, which in itself also leads to inconsistent recoil control. A piece of a thin polyethylene grocery bag works great.

At last, I can contribute ! At our last fun shoot in Suthern KY, I saw a gauzy something or another under a habitually top shooter's fore arm.
Whazzat sez I? Lee: Oh just a dryer sheet.....
USED.

I see no difference between a bag stabilizer and thin sheet of other material.

I am not trying to argue with anyone and you guys certainly know more about this than I do. I am trying to understand what the rules mean. From what I am reading you can put anything you want under the bag especially to raise it higher if necessary, which might include a block of wood of whatever thickness you need.

Nick
Have you tried one there is a difference .
Before you waste any more time or money get you a bag stabilizer.

Dean is quite a competitor. It obviously works for him. Obviously, there is more than one way to skin a cat. If you look around though, I bet you see more bag stabilizers than non slip sheets in use. If it were me, I'd give it a go. Then I'd borrow a bag stabilizer at the match and try one to see what you prefer.

I doubt that I will be shooting in a match anytime soon. I don't have the equipment to compete with the big boys yet and even so, I am more interested in just shooting a few times a week. When I get a target full of one hole 5 shot groups, I'll start thinking about competition. I am already king of the hill at the range I go to. Hate to have my bubble busted by a bad showing in a match. Maybe next year. In a few weeks, I'll order two new barrels for the 6PPC and see how it goes. I'm thinking it will take some time for the barrels to arrive after I order them.
