Ready for new rifle. 223 - Savage vs Howa

55-77 gr projectiles are mainstream are they not ?

I have a Tikka T3, 223 Rem. 8" twist. Mine will not group the 50 or 55's less than about 1 MOA which isn't bad for a factory rifle. I tried the 60 Vmax's and the groups shrunk to under .5 MOA. I see posts where many claim that their 8" twist 223's handle the 50 and 55's very well; I don't dispute this; perhaps my rifle is just different and not the norm.

My 12" twist 223's (seven) all shoot the 50 and 55's extremely well.

Savage. Put a Rifle Basix trigger on it and enjoy. If you wear the bbl out there are many good choices for replacement.. Have fun and let us know what you decide.
I have a Savage with a 1:12 Twist.. Had to get 53 gr Vmax's to group well.

I will lean towards the Savage. However, after having enough of the early stagger feed blind box magazine rifles to build on, I now had to buy a newer one with the inline feed for a build. No 223 stagger magazines to be found, followers and bolt faces galore. (Just and FYI if you want to change up down the road)
Savage keeps changing up on screw spacing and other things with the action. The 700 Remington has set a standard for years. Savage should take heed of that and quit swapping crap around.

The Howas, I have picked up a few and eyed them at different gunshops. Shot a few at the range. I hear a Lot of good on them and see folks building on them from time to time. The ones I had my hands or were nice smooth actions, new and used.

Input from others is always welcome on such subjects. But to get both rifles side by side for one to handle before purchase can be impossible at times. I would suggest at least trying to get to hadle easy model you have interest in. A few bucks in gas beats getting a rifle you think you want, then only to find a lot of dislike towards it.
