Reading reticle subtensions?

Greetings all,

I am trying to make sense from Leupold's reticle sub-tensions charts found here: leupold.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/2015-reticle-information.pdf

Looking at the Table "DUPLEX STYLE RETICLE SUBTENSIONS" on page 7 for e.g., FX-II 4x, for wide duplex the text reads

Heavy section: 2.4 inch

Thin section: 0.8 inch

Thin opening 38.2 inch.

Looking at the wide duplex on p. 3, my interpretation is that the heavy section is the vertical measurement of the heavy line; the thin section is the vertical measurement of the thin line, and the thin opening is the horizontal measurement of the thin line, all at 100 y.

Can someone confirm?

Kindest regards,

M

I think that it is perhaps easier to understand if we say that the thickness of the lines on a target at 100 yards are 2.4" for the heavy section and .8" for the light, and that at the same distance the length of the thin section (between heavy sections) is 38.2".

Also bare in mind, that reticle subtensions are calibrated at a given magnification power (except for FFP's). Any amount of zoom in or out from calibration point will also change the subtension specifications.
