RE17???

With the use of re17 and the increase in fps, how would this affect the barrel life or at all. I run H4831 now in my 243 but if I can get more fps at same charge then I am all over it. I'm thinking that there is a little more erosion with 17 than 4831. Thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Reloder 17 is a double-base powder. Some people feel that double-base powders will erode barrels more quickly than single-base powders such as H4831sc.,That may or may not be true. RL15 is a double-base powder and, at least with 6BRs, it delivers barrel life on a par with other powders.)

On the other hand, Reloder 17 has rather unique burn properties, distibuting a larger % of energy over a longer period of time. That, potentially, means there is less energy transfer in the first few micro-seconds as the powder is burning in the throat area... which might mean longer barrel life.

Truth is...nobody knows how Reloder 17 will compare in barrel life to other popular powders. Nobody on the planet has shot enough rounds through a barrel with it yet to know.

Thanks for the info, I thought it might be too soon but asked anyway. I may get some and run both loads, just not as many re17.
