re-chambering a .260 to 6.5x47L- possible??

Hi
Is it possible to turn a couple of threads off a barrel chambered in .260 rem and then run a 6.5x47 Lapua reamer into the barrel to get a new chamber in 6.5x47 or do you have to cut the complete old chamber off and start again??

Same question but for the 6.5x55 to 6.5x47L?

thanks

It really depends on the dimensions of the existing chamber and the dimensions of your reamer. The critical point would be the neck-shoulder junction since the new reamer would have to go in far enough to change the shoulder angle from 20 or 25 to 30 degrees. Also, if your reamer has a fitted neck you will have to run the reamer in far enough to clean out the old factory neck which is probably larger in diameter than the new one. My military-mind guess is that a couple of threads setback will not do it unless you're really lucky. More like 1/2 to 3/4 inch I'd guess.
