Re-Barreling Cooper model 16

I have a Cooper model 16 in .223 WSSM and was looking to re-barrel it in another caliber.
I talked to Greg at Cooper firearms and he said that the only calibers I can go with are .243 WSSM or .25 WSSM.
I was under the impression that if the loading/extraction port and bolt face were accommodating, that I could use somthing along the lines of 6.5x47 Lapua or .243.
Am I missing somthing or is there a problem with the model 16 reciever that wouldn't allow this?
